A very well-written and researched novel written by the future author of Ben-Hur. This was the first of Wallace's three novels, focusing on the collision between the Aztec Empire and Spain's Hernando Cortez.
A young adventurer from the northern edge of the Aztec empire arrives in Tenochtitlan hoping to become a soldier for one of the empire's leading Lords (Tzins). As he does, he finds himself in the middle of the climax of the Aztec Empire. Word has reached the Emperor that strangers have landed on the eastern coast, led by one who may be the god who left 200 years earlier promising to eventually return.
I thought I was buying an original book, in 'new' condition. Instead, I got a newly printed paperback and the print is too small. I can't see to read it, even with my reading glasses. If I had gotten an original printing, it would be small type but I could read it. I'm very disappointed and discouraged.
The copy I received from ordering this book via Prime has print that is extremely small and very difficult to read. I had to return it.

I like this book very much. Lew Wallace's book "Ben Hur, a Tale of the Christ" is my favorite book -- and I'm now trying to read all of his books that I can find. The Fair God was one of his earlier books and it is excellent, telling the story of the conquest of Mexico by Cortez. I recommend this book.
